Music is a universal language. It breaks distance and time boundaries
Just as much as the quote speaks to me, music is also one of my biggest passions. In my first year living in Hamburg, I was so ready to look for a music group, where I could sustain this longstanding passion and continuously engaged. Early 2017, I was elated to get to know the orchestra group together with fellow Indonesian diaspora in Hamburg. Angklung Hamburg Orchestra is an orchestra group performing Indonesia's traditional music instrument made out of bamboo. Since then, Angklung practice every Sunday has been part of my unbreakable routine.
In the same year, the group was preparing for its grand charity concert responding the humanitarian crisis in Syria. For it was the first concert in which I was partly performing, it was also the year that I first learn the instrument. Despite the challenges, I had so much fun playing different types of music as well as getting to know such inspiring people. The Angklung in Concert sold all the online tickets prior the event and all tickets on spot on the day concert. We raised more than €4000 and donated all the total amount to Islamic Relief Hamburg for the humanitarian response in Syria. We can't thank the performers, organisers, supporters, the General of Indonesian Consulate in Hamburg as well as the audience who were there and made this memorable concert possible.
